Why Pilates for Shoulder & Elbow Pain?

Introduction to Pilates Physical Therapy

Pilates physical therapy is a specialized approach to rehabilitation and fitness that integrates the principles of Pilates with traditional physical therapy techniques. It focuses on improving strength, flexibility, balance, and overall body awareness to promote optimal movement patterns.

Shoulder Blade Stabilization

Shoulder is a ball and socket joint. One key aspect of Pilates physical therapy is the focus on proper shoulder blade function as it relates to the shoudler joint. This involves activating and strengthening the rotator cuff muscles, improving flexiblity in your thoracic spine, and restoring proper rotation of the shoulder blade, all essential for optoimum arm movement.

Enhancing Elbow Function

Through targeted exercises and movements, Pilates physical therapy aims to improve the coordination and strength of the upper extremity with varyind degrees of load and resistance. Ensuring full active range of motion of wrist and elbow is crucial for functional reach, carry, and weight bearing tasks such as planks and crawling.

Comprehensive Rehabilitation Approach

Pilates physical therapy sessions allow for a comprehensive approach to rehabilitation of the entire shoulder girldle, addressing both the symptoms and underlying causes of shoulder, elbow, and wrist pain. By promoting balanced muscle activation and proper biomechanics taking spine into consideration, individuals can achieve greater resilience & mobility.
